Building the Cantata Workspace

1. Read and display an image using the operators User defined and Display Image .
2. Perform subsampling on the image using the Shrink operator with same Width and Height factors. You may display this image if you want to.
3. Apply the operator Expand to the subsampled or shrunked image, using the same Width and Height factors. The resultant image will have the same size of the original. We can think that the new pixels are represented by a larger portion of the screen.

Exercises

• Take the original image (with 256 grey-levels) and generate several images with different quantization levels: 64, 32, 16, 4 and 2. Use operator Divide.
• What is preferable: higher spatial resolution or higher number of quantization levels?
