Fukushima (Editors), Wiley-VCH Publishers, Weinheim, 1998] Abstract A novel algorithm to determine transversal relaxation rate distributions for tumor and neoplasic tissue characterization is presented. The methodology is applied to a variety of tumors with different degrees of malignancy as well as to healthy tissue. The results show that when there is a malignancy it frequently happens in a definite relaxation rate window, outside of which only liquid or benign neoplasic tissue are present. The methodology developed in this work can be easily inplemented in any type of scanner at any magnetic field and it can be extended to study other pathologies.
